Angélique Aubrit & Ludovic Beillard: Une solitude vraiment terrible

How would our role in society change if it ceased to be defined and controlled by capital? The French-Belgian duo Angélique Aubrit and Ludovic Beillard stage a potential situation in the environment of the Kostka Gallery. Here they unfold fragments of the everyday life of six characters living in a utopian reality in which the concept of property and money has suddenly disappeared. Under the pressure of new circumstances, the previously unshakable hierarchical social structures collapse, forcing the characters to come to terms with the loss of their positions and privileges. The seemingly static expectation and shifting in space-time is in fact a source of tension culminating in power games that border on manipulation and cruelty. The persistence within the confines of the present and the unwillingness to leave its environment reflect a contemporary world that, as theorist Boris Groys points out, is only interested in itself. This society places its actors in a void of immense loneliness that escalates with the loss of previous certainties. Oversized characters created by art meet in one street and come to life during the accompanying performances. They invite the audience to observe and participate within potential moments that are difficult to imagine at the moment. Indeed, social collapse appears in this work not as a hypothetical scenario, but as a question of the fragility of our existence.

The solo exhibition of the French-Belgian artist duo Angélique Aubrit and Ludovic Beillard will be accompanied by a performance and an original film created during their artist residency at MeetFactory. This is the first chapter of a film that the artists will be shooting in several European cities over the next two years.
