When Joe Andrews and Tom Halstead released their first recording as Moin in 2012 on a split with Pete Swanson, they could be perceived as a post-punk sidekick to their industrial dub outfit, Raime.

The British electronic scene of that time, shaped partly around the Blackest Ever Black label which went defunct in 2019, drew heavily from the post-punk of the 1980s. Moin represented the flip side of this approach with their guitar sounds following electronic music techniques. The character of Moin as a side project changed by 2021 when drummer Valentina Magaletti joined the duo. In the new formation, they released their third studio album You Never End in 2024.

The current era of Moin is characterized by a shift in sound and inspiration from the 1980s post-punk to the 1990s post-hardcore, represented by bands like Slint and Unwound. Moin do not offer overtly emotional vocals or cathartic climax, but instead, through vocal samples and guest vocalists (Coby Sey, James K, Sophia Al Maria, Olan Monk), they subtly build trance. Genre boundaries are somewhat loosely defined here, but if we must use them, Moin play mature post-hardcore that - rather than confining itself - has been listening to industrial techno and dub for the past fifteen years.

While You Never End appears on many year-end lists, seeing Moin live is a rare chance. In the Czech Republic, they were first seen during their legendary performance at the Neratov church as part of the Jednota Neratov festival. Their Prague debut will be brought by the cooperation of Jednota and MeetFactory on 25 February 2025.
