The International Centre for Contemporary Art MeetFactory together with CEAAC in collaboration with the French Institute in Prague are opening a new call for applications for a three-month residency for an artist from the Czech Republic at CEAAC in Strasbourg (France).

ABOUT CEAAC:

Founded in 1987, the Centre européen d’actions artistiques contemporaines (CEAAC) aims to support, produce and promote contemporary creation for all audiences. Located in an Art Nouveau building in the heart of Strasbourg since 1995, the CEAAC organises exhibitions and events showcasing the richness and diversity of regional, national and international contemporary creation. Its artistic program and areas of research includes the status of images in a fast-changing environment, vernacular culture and know-how, and public health issues. In parallel, it develops and implements specific outreach programmes for schools (all grades from nursery to university) and audiences with special needs. For over twenty years, CEAAC has been organising residencies for artists and researchers in collaboration with a large network of institutions and cultural organisations.

The artist residencies include:

  • Accommodation in a shared apartment right next to CEAAC in Strasbourg and a studio at Bastion 14;

  • Return transport from the place of residence in the Czech Republic to Strasbourg in economy class up to a maximum of €200;

  • A fixed allowance of €3,000 (€1,000 per month gross) including production and living expenses related to the residency;

  • Access to a bike for the duration of the stay;

  • Supervision by CEAAC team and contact with the local art scene.

Residency term:

  • The residency will take place from May 5 to August 3, 2025;

  • The stay cannot be split up in different periods.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Actively participate in the Czech art scene;

  • Demonstrate a professional career for a minimum of 5 years (including completed solo and group exhibitions and project proposals);

  • Have completed their studies;

  • Have a good command of English;

  • Knowledge of French welcome;

  • Be free from professional commitments for the duration of the residency;

  • The call is not age restricted;

  • A presentation of research results may be organised over the course of or at the end of the residency;

  • A link to CEAAC’s artistic program and areas of research (as listed above) is not mandatory, but welcome;

  • In the case of a dual residency, the fee remains the same and is split between the two participants.

The application, written in English, must include:

  • CV;

  • A portfolio of maximum 10 pages;

  • A motivation letter of no more than 1,800 characters with a motivation for the residency, or a project proposal and an idea for its implementation, particularly with regard to how the residency can benefit the applicant's artistic practice or professional trajectory.

Selection process:

The application will be assessed by a committee composed of MeetFactory residency program staff, the Cultural Attachée of the French Institute in Prague and CEAAC representatives. The committee reserves the right to reject any project without giving reasons for its decision. The Commission's decision is final and cannot be appealed. The partner institutions reserve the right to suspend, shorten, extend or postpone the Call for Proposals: Strasbourg Residency.

Deadline for applications up to and including December 15, 2024. Applications sent after this date will not be admitted to the selection procedure. By mid-January, a shortlist of applicants will be invited for an interview by the jury. The results of the selection process will be published no later than January 31, 2025 on the MeetFactory website: www.meetfactory.cz.

Applicants will not be contacted by telephone about the results of the procedure.
Applications should be sent to the curators of the MeetFactory residency programme, Tereza Havelková and Kateřina Pencová, with an accompanying email in English to opencall@meetfactory.cz. In the subject line please write "OPENCALL STRASBURK 2025".
